AISI 316 stainless steel has a higher nickel content and benefits from the addition of molybdenum as an alloying element. These tweaks to the material chemistry give 316 stainless enhanced corrosion resistance with better protection against the initiation of pits/pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in environments where chloride levels are elevated. Cutting, Bending, & Threading Standard threaders can be used on stainless steel; it is normal to experience faster wear of the dies, especially in the larger sizes (2-1/2”, 3”, and 4”). Standard benders can be used on stainless steel; it is normal to experience greater spring back in the larger sizes (2-1/2”, 3”, and 4”).
